Hello all,
and welcome to the Irish Vintage Scene Online Newsletter for July 2015 (Issue 110). Despite an unusually cold May the show season has been progressing well, and June has thankfully seen in increase in temperatures. In the last few weekends I’ve attended the Gordon Bennett Rally, the NEVCC Mosney Car Show, the Pioneer Run, the Innishannon Steam & Vintage Rally, Kilbroney Vintage Show, Classic Car Live and more. Add to that a double deadline thanks to the new issue of Retro Classics coming out on the 1st of July and you’re left with a pretty busy month around here! It’s been great to meet so many enthusiasts on my travels though, and I have to say that the quality of the vintage and classic vehicles in this country continues to escalate. Long may it continue.
Safe motoring,
Andrew Pollock, Editor.

New Issue of Irish Vintage Scene Out Now!
The July 2015 edition of Irish Vintage Scene (Issue 110) is on sale now, and once again is full to bursting with feature vehicles and show reports from all around Ireland.
This month’s cover slot goes to a family saloon that was such a popular choice for not only motorists in its native Germany, but all over Europe and here in Ireland too. Even though the Opel Kadett C’s rear-wheel-drive layout was traditional its mechanicals were very well proven, and suspension was by coil springs all round unlike other RWD competitors. The example we feature this month was sold new at Bushe & Flynn Opel dealers in Dublin in 1979, and has recently been restored to pristine condition by a Dundalk-based enthusiast after it lay deteriorating in storage for many years. Our second car feature tells the wonderful story of a recently-rebuilt 1973 Ford Consul L that’s remained in the same family all of its life, coming back to Ireland with them when they relocated from England in 1976….[read more]

This Month’s Video Link
Each month we like to bring the recipients of our online newsletter something of interest from the worldwide web, be it a video, photo or a blog. You might have noticed that we are big fans of Jay Leno and his amazing car collection – well this month’s video link takes us back to his huge garage once more to check out one of his oldest yet most interesting machines: his steam-powered 1906 Stanley Vanderbilt Cup race car. For those with a head for mechanics there’s a lot of technical content in this one, so it’s well worth a watch.
