Newcastle Car Show to be shaken, not stirred
A bit of James Bond motoring magic is coming to Newcastle later this month.
Some of the best known models from 50 years of Bond movies will be centre stage at this year’s annual Vintage, Classic and Sports car Show at the Slieve Donard Hotel (January 25-27).
This stunning Aston Martin DB5 will be the star attraction at the show which features some of 007’s most iconic cars. The model first appeared in Goldfinger with Sean Connery in 1964, and has featured in several other Bond films, including the most recent installment of the franchise, Skyfall.
Also on show will be a model of the famous white Lotus Esprit which first appeared in The Spy Who Loved Me, and a yellow Citroen 2CV which featured in a dramatic car chase in For Your Eyes Only.
As well as the Bond-themed cars, there will be more than 40 other collectors’ cars, from every era packed into the hotel’s Grand Ballroom. Sure to catch the eye will be a Model T Ford, a first edition Mini and Mark 1 and Mark 2 Ford Escort rally cars.
Now in its nineteenth year, the Vintage, Classic and Sports Car Show is run by local car enthusiasts and attracts more than 3,000 visitors over the course of the weekend.
The show has raised almost £120,000 for local charities and proceeds from this year’s event will go to Cancer Research UK.
Admission is £5 for adults and £2 for children. Opening times are 2pm to 10pm on Friday 25 January, 10am to 10pm on Saturday 26, and 10am to 4pm on Sunday 27 January.
