The Fordson Thames Trader ET-Series of lorries introduced after the end of World War Two are one of the most sought-after of all classic commercials, as they were the first to be powered by the 3.6-litre in-house Ford diesel engine as fitted to the much-loved New Major tractor at that time. Although only a four-cylinder unit, the engine made up for its slight lack of power by being almost unburstable in operation, earning a reputation for legendary reliability early in its life. This month Andrew meets with the owner of a lovely example from Co. Clare.
