Moved by the plight of the thousands of people left with damaged homes and devastated lives following the floods caused by Storm Desmond, a tractor enthusiast from Tipperary has decided to auction off one of his collection in aid of the victims.
Michael Fahey of Thurles has placed the 1954 Ferguson TE20 tractor with Paul Cooke Auctions of Naas in the hope that it will attract bids that not only match its market value, but will also reflect the desire of others to help in alleviating the suffering of those caught up in the disaster. An avid collector of old Fordsons, Michael had acquired the tractor several years ago for a friend who sadly passed away before he was able to take delivery of the little grey Fergie. It has since been used only for road runs to keep it in working order, and at 62 years of age it is a very tidy and well-kept example that is still in excellent condition. He feels that it would make a splendid addition to a collection that seeks to preserve authenticity.
The tractor will go under the hammer on Thursday the 17th of December at 7pm, and whatever sum it attracts will be donated to the Irish Red Cross for them to use in supporting the victims of the floods that wreaked havoc along the southern and western coasts earlier this month. The auction will be held at Paul Cooke’s auction rooms in the Naas Industrial Estate, Co. Kildare – online and phone bidding is available, and further details may be found at www.tractorauction.eu.
