The government are preparing a bill to bring in legislation to close a loophole that is supposedly costing the taxpayer €55m
per year. This new legislation will mean that vehicle owners will have to make a declaration of non-use of a vehicle before putting it off the road; this is the opposite of the current system, where a declaration is made after the period off the road.
