Description
The May 2016 issue of Irish Vintage Scene (Issue 120) is on sale now, and as always is full to the brim with top feature vehicles and show reports from all around Ireland.
This month’s cover car comes from a time when every small family car wasn’t a front-wheel-drive hatchback; the Fiat 850 might have produced less than 40bhp, and had a pretty small boot up front, but it was a very popular little saloon for Fiat and its cute looks mean that it’s a popular little classic for enthusiasts today. This one is an Irish-assembled example, which has been restored in recent years while retaining as many of its original features as possible. Our second feature car is also rear-engined, but extremely rare in comparison – this 1934 Mercedes 130H is one of 4,298 made from ’34 to ’36, with very few surviving WW2. This particular car has recently emerged from a long restoration, and took the top prize at the recent AXA National Classic Car Show. Our third feature car is a very fine example of the long-underrated Reliant Scimitar GTE, one that’s been very well sorted by its owner over the last fifteen years.
Our main tractor story this month looks at a very impressive rig indeed – a big Lanz Bulldog 28/06 from the closing days of the single-cylinder two-stroke diesel, plus a matching Lanz muck-spreader that’s recently been restored by its Lanz-mad owner – while our second tractor feature is no less impressive, as we visit the Co. Kildare-based collection of a life-long David Brown enthusiast, which is stored in a very impressive building indeed. Our feature motorcycle this month is a recently-rebuilt BMW R75/5 from 1971, a classic model that’s really gaining popularity nowadays, and our commercial feature looks at a Leyland Mini Van that was restored for its owners’ wedding! The list of show reports includes the Newcastle Indoor Classic Car Show, the Spring Tractor World Show from Malvern in England and a bumper four-page report on the recent AXA National Classic Car Show in Dublin’s RDS, and all of the usual favourites are in there too, so don’t miss out – get your May 2016 issue of Irish Vintage Scene today!
