What’s in issue 85 June 2013

 The Features

Tail Gunner

It’s hard to believe that the Porsche 911 has been around for fifty years now. In that time it’s gone from sports car to supercar, and has racked up countless competition victories in various disciplines. To mark its big five-oh Andrew Pollock meets up with the lucky owner of a sixties variant to check out just where the car’s massive appeal originated.

Red Zetor Day

The 11-Series Zetor range will be one familiar to many readers, as these tractors gave sterling service on many Irish farms for decades, all for little cost and with minimal repair time. John Darcy from Co. Wicklow has just restored an example of the baby of the range, the two-cylinder 2511, to fantastic condition, as outlined by Carl Czanik this month.

A Wyse Choice

Many readers will have had their first two-wheeled experiences on a Puch scooter, and Pat Wyse is no exception. Pat has clear memories of sitting on the tank of his father, James’ Puch 50 while they went to the bog, coming back with the turf stacked up on the back of the scooter. Pat’s memories are still strong, and drove him to recently restore a 1960 Puch VS50 DK for himself.

A Chip off the Old Block

It’s always nice when you can trace an interest in a certain vehicle back through successive family generations, and that’s certainly the case with this month’s classic commercial feature. William Maybury from West Cork is the third generation of his family to own a D-Series Ford, as he has recently finished the restoration of a sand and gravel tipper similar to that run by his grandfather many years ago.

Aladdin’s Cave

One of the beauties of working at Irish Vintage Scene is that we get to see first-hand so many amazing collections of vehicles. Since the introduction of the Model Scene section we have also gotten to see some fantastic model collections too, and a recent visit to Anthony Payne from Limerick left our own Tom Heavey absolutely speechless. When you see the photos, you’ll realise why.
